In our first grade froggie classroom we of course had to get some tadpoles for our class pet! These are not any ordinary tadpoles though, they are going to grow into Poison Dart Frogs! A friend of mine breeds these frogs and this generation no longer secretes the poisonous hormones through its skin. When they transform into frogs, they should be a beautiful bright blue color. Right now one has back legs and is growing front legs. The other still has its long tail. Having these tadpoles are an added "hands on" element that allows students to actually observe the life cycle of a frog while we learn about it in class!

St. Patrick's Day
We had a very sneaky visitor in Room 103 last week! When we entered the classroom in the morning, there was a mess there to greet us! Cubes scattered on the floor, our library all mixed up, and a little note on our board! Then we saw that the little visitor had used the bathroom too! He left a gift for us as well- a treasure of Lucky Charms! We sorted them, graphed the marsh mellows, and enjoyed a yummy snack! Maybe next year we will actually catch the Leprechaun!
Book Fair
Last week was our book fair! The theme this year was "Story Laboratory: Reading Gives You Super Powers!" Here are some of our first grade super readers!

Polar Express Week
We had such a fun-filled December in our first grade classroom. We had the privilege of listening to our wonderful principal read the holiday favorite book "The Polar Express." We wore our jammies and got to enjoy cookies and milk while listening. The kids had a great time and we made a lot of memories!
The last day before our break, we got to watch the movie "The Polar Express"! Each student got a golden ticket to board our classroom train and our awesome High school helper served up some yummy hot chocolate! Each child got their tickets punched with a special descriptive word, just like in the movie! I had a blast and I hope the kiddos gained some great holiday memories!

Thanksgiving
Before Thanksgiving Break, we had fun learning about different Native American Tribes in America, and creating our own village. Each child chose a job in the community and created a teepee to live in, a canoe to fish in, and fire to cook with. After the village was finished, we made head dresses a Native American name. Some examples were: Tall Flower, Fast Arrow, One Who Shows Kindness, and Ku-Wa- Ku, which means "little chief." We love incorporating Social Studies and History in our classroom!
Election Day
On November 6th room 103 participated in Election Day along with the rest of America! We learned about voting, about the secret ballot, and a tiny bit about each candidate. We held our own election in class, and the kids had a great time!
